This month our students had the wonderful opportunity to learn about culture, language, and fairytales hands on.  For our 1^st grade students this was most valuable because it directly correlates to our semester project “Once Upon a Time: fairytales by the Brothers Grimm”.

Students were able to explore a forest of trees covered in fairytales.

They enjoyed the treasure chests filled with fairytale flair! Students listened to story sound effects, played with puppets, learned magic tricks, and participated in an English story wheel!

Together we sat by the story tree that was covered with pictures of random objects such as: a cell phone, crown, skate board, and treasure chest. We would give the center tree branch a spin. Whichever picture it landed on gave the story teller a new object that must be incorporated into our fairytale. Then the story would be passed and continued by the next story teller. Our stories were creative to say the least!
