The True Art of Shaving…Cream!
12 agosto de 2014By Lisa Maia, First Grade Bilingual Teacher
First Grade prepares, because Father’s Day is upon us! We began by celebrating the characteristics of our fathers. One common practice that our dads may share is shaving the beard.
We opened up a can of shaving cream and used our five senses to explore. The students described the scent as “cheiro de homem,” or it smells like a man. The boys were invited to visit our classroom barbershop for a clean shave. We lathered up their beards, and shaved them with a smooth popsicle stick. Our class followed the activity by watching and discussing a commercial of how a man shaves his beard.
After discussing the art of shaving, we turned our shaving cream into a work of art! We used shaving cream, drops of paint, and a straw to swirl the colors. Students pressed the paper onto the mixture causing the shaving cream to ooze from the sides, as they giggled at the sensation of the colorful, creamy, gooeyness. Then we peeled away the paper to reveal the colors beneath, students gasped in amazement and said “LINDO!” and “WOW!” We shaved away the excess cream and were in awe of the beauty that remained. Each piece unique. Each piece made with love in honor of our fathers!
