Math for preschoolers

From the outside looking in you may observe a number of children seated with a teacher playing with wooden blocks but the dialogue isn’t what you expect.
Teacher: Sofia, get four blocks and build a tower with them.
Sofia: (Counting while getting the blocks) one, two, three, four.
Teacher: Please count them again. How may blocks do you have? Which card has the number four?
Sofia: Four. Aqui (showing the flash card with the number four)
What you may not know is that this simple act of play can develop numerous math concepts such as: counting with one to one correspondence, number recognition, and even addition. Besides this math activities in early childhood education can nurture a child’s interests in math and build confidence in problem solving. This is why we’ve incorporated math in many of our Infantil II activities.
So as you can see, whether it’s through play, recreational games, and literature (stories), a solid math foundation can be constructed and nurtured, therefore preparing the child not only for Kindergarten but for the rest of their school years!
Which book do you like better? Graphing the results with the children.
What color are your tennis shoes, is it black, white, or blue? The students decide and count together.
